Central Catholic Football History

Since 1920, Toledo Central Catholic High School has been one of the most successful and storied football programs in the State of Ohio. Having won nearly 500 hundred games in that time, the Irish have accumulated numerous Toledo City League titles, appear regularly in the state playoffs and have claimed two Ohio State Championships; a poll title in 1962 and the Division II crown in 2005. The Irish are the reigning Toledo City League champions winning back to back titles in 2005 and 2006. During that time, they established a record 23 straight league victories. Countless numbers of Central Catholic players have gone on to successful college and pro careers.  Most recently two-time All–State receiver/defensive back Dane Sanzenbacher accepted a full-ride athletic scholarship to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes this fall, while ’03 grad Ryne Robinson followed up his outstanding career at Miami University by being drafted in the 5th round by the Carolina Panthers.

Under the direction of C.C.H.S. grad Greg Dempsey, the Irish are poised to maintain their winning ways. Since taking over the heading coaching duties in 2000, Dempsey has amassed 61 victories and a .744 winning percentage. With the construction of a new multi-million dollar football stadium/weight room/locker room facility, the great tradition of Toledo Central Catholic Fighting Irish football appears secure for years to come.
