Central Catholic Football History

Since 1920, Toledo Central Catholic High School has been one of the most successful and storied football programs in the State of Ohio. Having won nearly 500 hundred games in that time, the Irish have accumulated numerous Toledo City League titles, appeared regularly in the State Playoffs and have claimed two Ohio State Championships; a poll title in 1962 and the Division II crown in 2005. The Irish are the reigning Toledo City League champions winning back to back to back titles in 2005, 2006 and 2007. During that time, the Irish have established a record 23 straight league victories.

Additionally, countless numbers of Central Catholic players have gone on to successful collegiate and professional careers.  Most recently two-time All–State receiver/defensive back Dane Sanzenbacher accepted a full-ride athletic scholarship to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes and will begin his Sophmore season in '08, while ’03 grad Ryne Robinson followed up his outstanding career at Miami University by being drafted in the 5th round by the Carolina Panthers. This tradition of excellence continues as two more student-athletes continue their football careers; Iowa-bound Brad Rogers and Alabama-bound linebacker Mike Marrow

Under the direction of '90 C.C.H.S. grad Greg Dempsey, the Fighting Irish are poised to maintain their winning ways. Since taking over the Head Coaching duties in 2000, Dempsey has amassed some 71 victories and a .744 winning percentage. As Dempsey began his 9th season, the Irish defeated the Bowling Green Bobcat's 24 - 7. The win gave Coach Dempsey (70-24) the most head coaching wins in Central football history. He passed Al Sacksteder, who was 69-43-9 from 1925-38.

With the construction of a new multi-million dollar Gallagher Stadium, The Delp Fitness Center and The Carroll Family Locker Room Facility, the great tradition of Toledo Central Catholic Fighting Irish football will remain secure for many years to come.
